The problem confronting the USA is the same one it has been for decades. They are unwilling to change the attitude that creates the problem. Instead they find excuses. Sure they need to ban assault rifles on the streets. But more importantly they need to confront the attitude of the backers of the NRA. not just ban the guns. So long as the attitude is not confronted the wall street fiasco's, the banks needing bail outs, the resulting recession and unemployment, the Sandy Hook type massacres will go on.
The USA will support shows like Survivor when the people with the wrong attitudes get to be the winners and behaviors that are undesirable are rewarded. So long as back stabbing, dishonest, two faced cons are rewarded in your culture and exalted on your TV it will be the assassin that is promoted and revered not the Lincoln. If you want to know why there was a Sandy Hook massacre, look in the mirror. Like Micheal Jackson sang " if you want to make the world a better place, take a look at the man in the mirror and make a change". Then and only then will the Sandy Hooks stop.
Banning the assault rifles is great but confronting the attitude behind those that support the NRA is the big thing needing to be done. You need to tell them to fuck off big time. So long as outfits like Sprint and Ford will spend their advertising dollers on shows like Survivor and be rewarded for doing so you will have Sandy Hooks.. Thats the WHY.

You speak of banning assault rifles and confronting the attitude that support NRA. As an American Veteran and a NRA supporter I disagree with you.
We here, As Americans, Cherish our God given liberties or rights from God. Rights not from men or governments. Our US Constitutional prohibits our government to infringe upon our Inalienable Rights.
Our 2nd Ammendment Right is there to guarantee to protect our 1st Amendment Right and other Rights from tyranny of government. Case and point Prior to World War II Germany under the NAZI party imposed Gun Control redering good honest law abiding citzens defenseless against criminals, mobs, looters, and oppressive government. JEWS was forced into concentration/work/education camps. Many JEWS and Political Dissidents were executed. Governments have, by it's very nature, a voracious appetite to enslave their citizens.
There is a Mob Mentality among criminal and feckless people in our society and it is there where the problem lies. We think it is a combination of things in our culture. Like illeagal drugs, gang violence, liberal socialism, anarchist and Hollywood movies. Lets compare Western (Cowboys Indians)movies of the 50's 60's to todays movies like "Dirty Harry", "Pulp Fiction" and "Kill Bill". Today movies glorify killing as 'cool' in a stylize way. Today's parents aren't policing theis children on video games. We learn that video games desensitize killing and train young kids or impressionable people how to kill for the thrill of killing (bloodlust).
And since the removal of the Ten Commandments and Prayer from public schools the Common Standard in our nation has sunk to depravity status in 60 years. In the 50's, chewing bubble gum in classroom was a major promblem in school. But now, rape of teachers and female students, drug dealing and gang killing are the problems in schools today.

We as citizen need to defend ourselves from incidents like these as well from tyranny like NAZI Germany. So, I want to keep my semi-automatic high capacity firearms, thank you. I would like to also, respectfully, disagree with your opinion. I am aware, that from an outside perspective, what is reported in U.S. media makes citizens look like low intellect, buffoons. And, please, do not judge the populace by the television shows that become popular with the more sedentary, and mindless of us.
At first glance, I also posed the question, "why do ordinary citizens need military style weaponry"? Upon deeper thought, I realized that due the the treachery of incremental change, we, as U.S. citizens, must always guard against knee jerk reactions. Those are the methods used by groups or individuals that will have you sacrifice, small, seemingly unimportant, freedoms, as a trade for promised future security. Over the years there have been many fables and tales created to teach the hazard of this slippery slope concept.
It is a false promise to tell the population of the country that removing military style weapons would lead to safety. No person, or government can assure anyone else of that. I, like many, prefer to take my chances armed to defend myself, than at the mercy of those who would not abide by the laws of the land in the first place.

You don't have the facts about what the president and media are calling assault weapons. They are not military machine guns. They are semi-automatic rifles, not the same machine guns the military uses. The president is trying to ban the civilian version of these guns. Pull the trigger and only one bullet comes out.
Choice of words matters and there is a reason gun banners call these assault weapons - All to persuade you.... Yet for the fully automatic versions that our goverment buys, the words are Personal Defense Weapon...

Don't be part of the witch hunt against law abiding citizens. We are good people. We want to protect our homes, our familys, our country if need by. We are not criminals. We already go through safety training and FBI background checks in order to legally own firearms. We are not the problem.

It took the police 20 minutes to get to Sandy Hook. An armed good guy should have been there much earlier.

Also please explain why Nunavut's murder rate is *six times* higher than the U.S. murder rate.
